We've got her at 3 p.m. today and she is beautiful. The orphanage director and nannies brought the seven girls to the conference room in the hotel we're staying at in Wuhan. It was such a nice arrangement. After signing temporary guardianship papers they presented us with a nice photo album of Caroline with pictures from the time when they received her until 14 monnths old and lots of info and pictures on the orphanage and her city. We both couldn't help but cry when we read what they had written on the first page: "We love you forever, you are always in our thoughts and welcome to come back."

It's been a rough couple of first hours. She's cried a lot and decided that for now, Darrin is her best option for comfort. We're assuming that at 17 months she can walk but we would love to witness it for ourselves. She won't let us put her down and is not interested in playing with toys or feeding herself. She really seems like a much younger baby. She got more calm as the night went on--discovering cheerios, finally taking a bottle of formula and then giving up to go to sleep around 9 as long as she could see both of us in site.

We did not get a chance to ask the nannies anything today (probably tomorrow) but one rushed in to tell our guide something who then translated to us that she does not like toys but prefers colored paper (I'll have to find out what that means for sure). So sorry Drew, the bunny will have to stay packed for now. She does seems slightly interested in stacking blocks and link, but not enough to play with them herself.

We are so overwhelmed with this special gift to us. Today the prayer that we have prayed for so long has been answered. She is more that we could have asked for and we hope to show her that in so many ways.

I need to head off to sleep since both Darrin and Caroline are out.
Love to you all--
Rhonda

Rhonda, it will get easier as each day passes, speaking from experience. I will continue to pray that Caroline will quickly know that you are her parents and feel comfort. Kaeli has been looking at the pictures - she knows it's Caroline in China!! Debbie

DARRIN AND RHONDA,

I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE ARRIVED AT YOUR HOUSE WE HAD TO HOLD A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR THE FISH YOU CALL "MARLIN". UNFORTUNEATELY HE WAS BELLY UP IN HIS BOWL WHEN WE WALKED IN THE DOOR. THE GOOD SIDE IS "NEMO" MADE IT. I HAD TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED AND DREW KEPT WANTING ME TO MAKE SURE HE WAS DEAD BEFORE WE MADE HIS GRAVE IN YOUR BACKYARD. WE CLEANED THE BOWL AND DREW IS FINE. NO TEARS. HE IS WATCHING JIMMY NEUTRON AS WE SPEAK. JUST THOUGHT I SHOULD FILL YOU IN ON ALL OF THE EXCITMENT. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS READING THIS KEEP NEMO IN YOURS PRAYERS THAT HE MAKES IT THROUGH THIS NEXT WEEK. DREW SAYS HE SAW YOUR PICTURES AND HE LOVE YOU!! :)
