Boy are we getting homesick. This hotel room, as beautiful as it may be, is getting old. Caroline loves being out and about but as soon as we get back and open the door to the room the tears flow...bigtime. We think all the things she doesn't like happens here--bedtime, diaper changes, baths and of course it's the first place we brought her after she was handed to us. Sorry we didn't post last night. We loaned our (my mom's) laptop to a friend who was struggling to send pictures home through the hotel's business center. She waited (and was being charged) 45 minutes to try to send one picture and it never happened. We have been so blessed to have this laptop to use whenever we want for free and with absolutely no problems for us computer numbskulls. Although we haven't been able to view your message to us it's so nice to get our feelings into words. We hear there have been lots of posts and we can't wait to read them when we get home.
Yesterday we did some local sightseeing around Wuhan. We went to the Hubei Provincial Museum which is a very old and beautiful setting of some tombs and huge bells. We saw a nice concert with the musicians in full dress and then headed to lunch--more Chinese. But we've decided Wuhan has better food than Beijing. Brim fish (because of all the nearby water) and lotus root (which when deep fried tastes like onion rings) are the local delicacies. Caroline really prefers a bottle of Chinese formula and rice cereal three times a day with cheerios, biter biscuits, raisins and fruit juice as supplements every now and then. And she loves to eat paper. It appears she hasn't been exposed much to table food. We also went to the local turqoise factory, which Wuhan is known for. The pace of life here is much slower then Beijing and we think it's a little cleaner and friendler. Wuhan has a car plant here that manufactures a certain car (I forget the name). The government gives a big tax break if you buy that car so they are everywhere.
She and I did have much better bonding today. Darrin needed a little break so I took her for several walks and ended up at a pizza party in the hotel hosted by a family in our group. The Pizza Hut cheese pizza was soooo good and then I sat her in the floor by some more babies and she played happily. I even got her to lay back on me and got some huge laughs when I tickled her. Of course I didn't have the camera and when I got back to our room we couldn't recapture the moment. Sleeping was good again last night--11 hours and she only woke up briefly and went back to sleep. We've also had success with the potty situation.
Caroline just woke up from nap so I need to go, but I'll post tonight about Darrin's orphanage trip and our girls' day out.
Love from Wuhan, China
