For those of you with aversions to bodily fluids stop reading. Caroline went poopy in the big girl potty today. Yeah! Just about everyday after lunch she has to go and she's started pointing to her bottom as an indicator that it's about to happen. Today I got smart enough to sit her own her potty. I walked away for a second and she came to get me to show me her accomplishment. Of course we all went on like it it was the greatest thing ever. She led me back in there tonight, but by the time I got the diaper off it was too late. I'm telling you this girl is smart and busy. She's just turned 21 months and rarely has time to sit down. She walks in circles in the house and works up a sweat very easily.

Moms Rock!
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and moms-to-be. Wanted to share something funny Drew brought home for me from school. His teacher helped him fill in the blanks in the following sentences:

My mom is special because: she helps me pick up.
I like it when my mom: gets me a snack.
My mom can do many things! I think she's best at: doing the laundry.
My mom has a pretty smile! I like to make her smile by: telling her funny things.
My mom is as pretty as a: flower.
My mom is smart! She even knows: how to make me lunch.

At what age do they begin to appreciate you for being fun, smart, loving, selfless and not just for what you do for them : ) You gotta love 5-year-old boys.
Three Months With Caroline!

Today marks the three-month anniversary of the day that Caroline was placed in our arms. A couple of days ago I looked back at pictures made the first day we had her and can't believe the progress we've made. On that day it sure would have been nice to see three months down the road that the tears and distress would end and the contented, outgoing girl would emerge. I wondered then if she'd be able to open her heart to love and trust us (OK, really me) and her big squeezes let us know that she does. We think she is the best thing ever and thank God every day for blessing us with Caroline.

She's still walking really well, but no signs of real talking--just lots of yelling (which we're working on). After a week of yucky illness she's down to 21 pounds (two pounds more than when we brought her home). On the growth charts she's in the 50% percentile for weight in China and 10% in the U.S. She looks just right to us and she still gives Drew a run for his money in the food department. She's so serious about her french fries that she has to eat them all before moving on to her other food.

So far we know that she loves flowers, the color yellow, paper, superheroes (but she doesn't really have a choice) and music. Not sure where she learned to dance, but she has some really good moves and seems to be able to keep the beat. Look out Kindermusik here she comes.

I think we've just about got around to meeting everyone--but if not, we'll be coming soon to a town near you.

Sweetest smile in the world. Posted by Picasa

She's Walking!
Caroline turned 20 months on Thursday and on Saturday morning started doing laps around the house. At first she only wanted to walk 6 or 8 steps to Drew, but quickly she was walking from one side of the room to the other and then immediately turning and going back. She worked up quite a sweat and slept really good that night. Hope she'll still remember me when she doesn't need my finger anymore.

Sorry for the delay in posting. On top of computer problems, we've been out of town introducing Caroline to family and all of us fallen victim to a nasty stomach virus. Even sick Caroline was pleasant. Just when you think life with her can't get any better she finds a new way of melting our hearts. She is learning sign language like crazy and has quite a way with a crayon (although she ate half a yellow one). She also loves to hum along with the radio and mimics everything I do (cooking, putting on makeup, giving Drew a bath). What a helper this girl is--she loves to help me put on my lotion (that will come in handy since I'm pushing 40). She is already much more patient at shopping than Drew and looks everyone we pass in the eye and waves (although very disturbed when they don't wave back). I have never met a more determined girl (that's nicer than the orphanage's word choice, "obstinate") or one that has the ability to make more people smile. Her little face can sure light up a room. We're looking forward to sharing lots of firsts this summer--swimming, trips to the zoo and music classes.

Check back in--I have a few more family trip photos to post later in the week.

Look out world--I'm on the move. Posted by Picasa
